I analyzed 22,022 API calls from my own Claude Code sessions when switching from Fable 5 to 5.1: Fable 5 vs Fable 5.1 across 22,022 of my own API calls . tl;dr: Fable 5.1 consumes ~31% more tokens per prompt. Reason 1 (was never cleanly communicated): Cache pricing discount is ONLY applied for API usage, subscriptions don't get such discount. Confirmed by Boris Cherny's announcement : prices were reduced "for Enterprise, API, and SDK customers". Subscriptions are not on the list. Reason 2 (the announced one): Temporary +50% boost got swapped to permanent +25% boost. That's ~17% less quota starting from Sep 13.
